Amazon’s New York Home Qualifies as ‘Distressed’ Under Federal Tax Law

This headline from the New York Times makes the Amazon situation jaw dropping. Instead of levying an impact fee that Amazon will cause, this company is getting over 1.6 billion in tax incentives.

I get wanting some tax relief. I do. I have my own small (very small) business. I keep track of my expenditures and pay attention to what can be listed as a write off. Yet the homestead taxes I pay, I know go for my city’s infrastructure and the federal taxes I pay, go somewhere. (I am not so sure where)

It has been referred to time and time again that Warren Buffet’s secretary pays more taxes than he does. Warren benefits from his ability to get taxes cut.

I have experienced a city that bent over backward to get a football team. There is a confidence game that city politicians fall for time and again. It is the illusion that there will be jobs o’plenty to the disenfranchised.

Very interesting read.
